A sauna tent is a heavy, heat-resistant fabric shell with a real sauna stove inside, burning wood or bottled gas. It packs into a bag, goes up in minutes, and gives you a proper hot sauna with stones and steam for a fraction of the price of a garden building. We found 15 for sale from 3 UK sellers; every one is below, checked on 30 September 2026.

Cheapest tent sold without a heater, for adding a stove you choose.
Each pick is the top model on the rule under it, among models whose retailer publishes the seats, size, height and heater. A model already picked is skipped. Prices checked 30 Sep 2026; how we pick.
Prices include VAT. Each row shows the date we checked it against the retailer's own page; the latest check was 30 September 2026. Prices change: the retailer's checkout price is what counts. Height chips show the retailer's stated height: green 2.5 m or lower, amber taller. That's before your base, and it isn't a planning check (see why 2.5 m matters). “Not recorded” means we could not confirm the figure on the retailer's page.
“Not included” in the heater column means the tent is sold on its own. The FinSteam tents are designed for FinSteam’s 8.1 kW gas heaters, which are sold separately or as part of a package.
Gas or wood-fired?

This is the big choice, and it decides where and how you’ll use the tent.
Wood-fired tents (6 listed) come with a small stainless steel stove and a flue pipe through a heat-proof port in the roof. They need no power or gas, so they work anywhere you can light a fire: a garden, a campsite, a beach where fires are allowed. You’ll be feeding the stove, and smoke and sparks come with it.
Gas-fired tents (6 listed) use a FinSteam heater running on bottled propane with a UK regulator and hose. There’s no wood smoke, and they’re easier to control. The heater and gas are the expensive part: the tents alone start at £795, but packages with the heater start at £2,495.
Why isn’t the Ember Base the cheapest gas package? At £2,495 it’s £200 less than the Ember Complete, with the same Fritid X tent and FinSteam Botnia 81 heater but no folding cedar bench. Its page doesn’t state the tent’s size or seats, so it can’t meet our rule that every pick has full specs published. If you have a bench already, it’s the cheaper way in.
Claims as we recorded them from each listing; words in quotation marks are the retailer's own. Where a sauna is sold without a heater, the claim depends on the heater you add.
Size, weight and set-up
Most tents here seat four on a floor about 1.8 m to 2.1 m square, with around 2 m of headroom in the middle. Group tents go up to 14 people on a 4 m octagonal floor.

Sellers who state packed sizes give figures like these:
BAST Löv: packed 65 × 40 × 25 cm, 10.3 kg.
BAST Näver: packed 150 × 40 × 30 cm, 22 kg.
BAST Björk: packed 180 × 45 × 35 cm, 26 kg.
FinSteam Fritid: 15 kg for the tent.
Set-up times are the seller’s claims: around 10 minutes for the PortaSauna HEX, 10 to 15 minutes with two people for the FinSteam group dome, and “about 15 minutes to set up and get the sauna running” for BAST.
Where you can use one
At home, the question for a wood-fired tent is smoke. If you live in a smoke control area, wood is an unauthorised fuel unless it’s burned in an exempt appliance, and you can be fined if a chimney releases smoke. The rules are written for chimneys on buildings, including garden buildings, so check with your council before you run a wood-burning tent stove at home in a town. Our smoke control area checker finds your council and what it says. Gas tents avoid the question.
Away from home, you need the landowner’s permission for a fire or a gas heater, as with any camping stove.
A sauna tent puts a very hot stove inside fabric, so follow the maker’s instructions on clearances, ventilation and the heat shield or guard. Never leave a stove unattended while it’s heating, and burn only the fuel the maker allows. Some of the FinSteam packages include a safety rail and heat shield; others sell them separately, so check what’s in the box.
Carbon monoxide
Anything that burns gas or wood can make carbon monoxide, which you can’t see or smell. The NHS advises against using a barbecue or camping stove inside a tent. Sauna tents are sold for use with their stove or heater, but that’s why the maker’s instructions on ventilation, flue and clearances matter so much:
Keep every vent the maker specifies open while the heater is lit.
Turn the heater off before anyone dozes off, and never sleep in the tent.
Take an audible, battery carbon monoxide alarm, and follow the alarm maker’s instructions on where to put it. Gas Safe Register calls an alarm a second line of defence, never a replacement for using the appliance correctly.
You’ll also see small “steam sauna tents” and “infrared sauna tents” for under a few hundred pounds. Like portable steam pods, these are folding fabric enclosures for indoor use, heated by a plug-in steamer or low-power panels. They’re not in our list because they aren’t outdoor saunas; see portable steam sauna pods for the difference.
When a tent makes sense
A tent is the cheapest way into a real sauna, and the only one you can take with you. If you want something permanent in the garden, the next step up in price is a barrel sauna or a small garden sauna, and our cost guide shows how the prices compare. For a permanent sauna heated by logs, see wood-fired saunas, and for running a gas or wood heater versus electric, see the running cost calculator.
