12 picks for 12 kinds of buyer, chosen from 489 listings by rules we publish, not by commission.
Prices checked 30 September 2026By outdoorsauna.ukWe may earn a commission if you buy through retailer links. It doesn't change what we list or how we rank. How we make money
This page doesn’t rank saunas by opinion or by commission. Each pick below is the model that comes top on a simple rule, applied to all 489 listings in our dataset, and the rule is printed under every pick so you can check it.
How these picks work
Rules, not opinions. Each category has one published rule, such as “lowest price among barrel saunas with 4+ seats and a heater included”. The model that comes top wins.
Full specs only. A model is only eligible if its retailer publishes the seats, size, height and heater details we need to check the rule.
A model wins once. If the same model tops two rules, it keeps the first and the next model takes the second. The same sauna sold by two retailers counts as one model (we show both prices); electric and wood-fired versions count as separate models.
No hands-on testing. We haven’t sat in these saunas. The picks are about specs and price, checked on 30 September 2026. See our methodology.
Commission plays no part. Some links earn us a commission; the rules don’t know which.
Lowest price among barrel saunas with 4+ seats and a heater included.
The Vidalux Traditional Outdoor Barrel Sauna in 3 Sizes – 2-4 Person is the cheapest barrel sauna in our data that seats four or more and comes with a heater: £2,299.99, or £575 a seat. The median for barrels that pass the same test is £3,507. Costco sells to members only, so factor in the membership fee if you don’t already have one. The same sauna is also listed by Vidalux at £2,849, which is worth knowing if you’d rather buy direct.
It’s 1.50 m long and 2.00 m high, so it sits under the 2.5 m limit that applies within 2 m of a boundary. The listing doesn’t name who makes the heater. If you’d prefer a Harvia or HUUM, with parts and support widely available in the UK, look at the runners-up below.
The top four barrels on this rule:
Lowest price among cabin saunas with 4+ seats and a heater included.
Cabins cost more than barrels (a median of £9,429 against £5,272) because you’re buying a small building with square walls and, often, a changing area. The CenturaHeat 4 Person Steam Outdoor Garden Sauna is the exception: at £3,763 it’s the cheapest four-seat cabin in our data with a heater in the price. It’s also sold by Pro-Line Direct for £3,763.
Its footprint is 3.2 m², which is compact for four seats. If you want room to stretch out or a changing area, expect to pay much more: see best with a changing room below and our full list of cabin saunas.
Lowest price among cube and pod saunas with 4+ seats and a heater included.
Cubes and pods give you a flatter floor and more headroom than a barrel of the same length. The Gardj Garden Sauna QUADRO 180 cm with Electric Stove is the cheapest with four or more seats and a heater included, at £3,289, and it comes with a Harvia Cilindro PC70 6.8 kW. At 2.40 m high it’s still under the 2.5 m boundary limit, but not by much, so check the height of any base you put under it.
Smallest footprint among saunas with 2+ seats, a heater included and a height of 2.5 m or less.
For a small garden, the number that matters is the footprint. The CenturaHeat 2 Person Steam Outdoor Sauna House takes up 1.3 m² (1.20 m by 1.05 m), the smallest of any sauna in our data that seats two, includes a heater and is 2.5 m high or lower, so on height alone it can go within 2 m of a fence. Its 3 kW heater is small too, which keeps running costs down: about £0.99 a session at the current price cap.
Lowest price among 4+ seat saunas sold with a wood-burning stove (tents excluded).
A wood-burning stove means no heavy electrical supply and the crackle of a real fire, at the cost of more work and, in many towns, smoke control rules. The Gardj Outdoor Barrel Sauna 180 cm with Wood-Burning Stove is the cheapest four-seat-plus sauna in our data sold with a wood stove, at £3,299.
Lowest price among outdoor infrared saunas with 2+ seats that state the electrical supply they need.
Infrared saunas warm you with panels rather than hot air and stones, so they run at lower air temperatures and use less power. The CenturaHeat 3 Person Outdoor Infrared Sauna is the cheapest outdoor-rated model in our data that seats two or more and says what electrical supply it needs. The retailer states: “3500W / 16A; requires an electrician to hardwire”. That matters: several infrared listings don’t say, and a sauna that needs a dedicated circuit costs more to install than one that plugs in.
A tent is the cheapest way into a real wood or gas-fired sauna, and it packs away. The BAST Löv Basic is the cheapest tent in our data sold with a stove, at £1,495 for 4 seats. BAST Sauna states “2-year warranty; 100-day satisfaction guarantee”.
Lowest price per seat among saunas for 6+ people with a heater included (tents excluded).
If you’ll regularly have six people in the sauna, price per seat is the fairest comparison. The Vidalux Traditional 4-6 Person Outdoor Barrel Sauna works out at £417 a seat, the lowest of any six-plus-seat sauna in our data with a heater included. The median for the same group is £914 a seat. Seat counts are the retailer’s own; six people on the benches of a 1.80 m sauna will be friendly.
Lowest price among saunas with a separate changing area and a heater included.
A changing area keeps robes and towels dry and gives you somewhere to cool off out of the wind. It also makes the building much bigger: the Nuovo Luxury Tranquil Ellipse Sauna 5m x 2.38m covers 11.9 m². That’s the cheapest sauna in our data with a separate changing area and a heater included, at £10,400.
A building this size needs more thought about planning and building regulations, especially over 15 m²: read installing a garden sauna first. Cheaper saunas with changing rooms exist if you buy the heater separately; filter the cabin saunas table to find them.
Best in thermally modified timber
Best in thermally modified timber
Polar Recovery Sauna Cube 3-5 Person Outdoor Sauna
Lowest price among 4+ seat saunas built in thermally modified timber as standard, with a heater included (tents excluded).
Thermally modified timber, often sold as Thermowood, is heated with steam and no added chemicals, which permanently lowers how much moisture it takes up and makes it more resistant to rot than ordinary spruce. It also costs more. Among saunas for four or more with full specs published, the Polar Recovery Sauna Cube 3-5 Person Outdoor Sauna is the cheapest built in it as standard, not as an upgrade, with a heater included: £4,999.99, with a Harvia Vega 6 kW. The Novi Cube Outdoor Sauna – 4 Person from Waltons costs less, at £3,849.99, but its listing doesn’t publish everything our rule needs, so check its size and height with the retailer. Read the warranty terms before you buy: Polar Recovery’s asks for a breathable wood oil or sauna-safe finish, and gives one year rather than two if you assemble it yourself.
There are 16 saunas in our data that pass this rule with full specs. Several more offer thermowood as a paid upgrade on a spruce model; the barrel and cube and pod tables list the timber for each.

Lowest price among barrel saunas with 4+ seats sold with a heater the listing names as Harvia or HUUM.
Many cheaper saunas come with a heater the listing doesn’t name. If you’d rather have a heater from a maker whose spares, stones and controllers are easy to find in the UK, this is the rule for you. The Gardj Outdoor Barrel Sauna 240 cm with Electric Stove is the cheapest barrel for four or more sold with a heater the listing names as Harvia or HUUM, at £3,449 with a Harvia Cilindro PC90 9 kW. That’s £1,149 more than our best value barrel.
Lowest price among 4+ seat saunas with a glass front and a heater included.
A glass front turns the sauna into a room with a view of the garden. Glass loses heat faster than timber, so a glass-fronted sauna needs a bigger heater for the same room (our heater size calculator adds it in). The Insignia V2 Hybrid-Heating 4 Person Sauna Infrared & Electric Stove Sauna is the cheapest four-seat-plus sauna in our data with a glass front and a heater included.
A pick that suits the rule may not suit your garden. Before you order:
Measure the space and the route in. Most saunas arrive kerbside on a pallet. Check the size of every gate and path between the road and the spot you’ve chosen. Retailers compared lists each one’s delivery terms.
Check the height against your boundary. Within 2 m of a boundary, 2.5 m is the limit for permitted development in England and Wales. The green height chips on this site mark models whose stated height is 2.5 m or lower, before your base. They’re a shortlist, not a planning check: use the planning permission checker and, if in doubt, ask your council.
Price the heater and electrics. If the heater isn’t included, add it from our sauna heater comparison. Most electric saunas need a new circuit, which is notifiable work. See installing a garden sauna.
Budget for the rest. A base, the electrician and delivery to the back garden can add a lot. Our garden sauna cost guide covers each.
Estimate running costs. Use the running cost calculator with the heater size of the model you’re considering.
