Sauna doors: glass doors, sizes and prices

Every sauna door we found for sale in the UK is a sheet of tempered glass in a frame: 17 of the 18 have a timber frame and one an aluminium one. They come from two of the retailers we track and are priced from £278.99 to more than £2,000, alongside 19 door parts: 8 handles, 9 hinges, a catch and a seal. Each is listed with the size, glass and frame its retailer states, checked on 3 October 2026. Below the tables: the door sizes makers sell, and what their manuals say about how a sauna door should open and close.

Sauna doors compared

18 doors from Finnmark Sauna and Leisurequip. This is not every door either shop sells. Finnmark’s door collection reported 76 products; we read about 53 of them and skipped listings that differ only in frame timber or glass colour, so many of these doors are also sold in other finishes. Aqualine Saunas had door handles and hinges but no doors in the pages we read. We didn’t record a solid timber sauna door.

Prices and specifications as shown on each retailer's own website on 3 October 2026; the retailer's checkout price is what counts. Leisurequip does not say whether its prices include VAT; for the other retailers we recorded the displayed price and didn't check for a VAT statement. “From” marks a starting price where the retailer sells several sizes or options: the shop's own “from” price, or the cheapest size we noted for the item named. “Price for one option” marks the cheapest size or finish in stock when we checked, where another was listed for less. “Not recorded” means we don't hold the figure, usually because the listing didn't state it. Seven of the 18 are priced under £400. Where a door is sold in two sizes, the price shown is the smaller one, marked “From”: the 7 × 20 size costs £34 to £73 more on the six Finnmark doors where we noted both. The Tylö doors at Leisurequip carry the shop’s own “from” prices, and we didn’t read the price of each size.

Sauna door sizes

Sauna doors are sold in a small set of sizes, written in millimetres or as a code such as “7 × 19”, which Thermory and Finnmark both use, for a door about 700 mm wide and 1,900 mm high. The sizes in the makers’ lists and in the table above:

• 7 × 19. Thermory’s catalogue lists its Trendline door in a size coded 7 x 19, with 690 x 1890 in the frame column, and SAWO gives a 690 × 1890 mm frame for its clear glass door.
• 7 × 20. Nine of the 15 Finnmark doors are sold as 690 × 1990 mm, as the only size or alongside 7 × 19.
• Wider and taller doors. Tylö’s DGB and DGL doors at Leisurequip are listed in widths of 690, 790, 890 or 990 mm and heights of 1890, 1990 or 2090 mm, and its Alu Line door is 778 mm wide in heights of 1870, 2020 or 2100 mm. SAWO also lists a 790 × 1890 mm frame.

The width we recorded is 690 mm for ten doors, 700 mm for four, 685 mm for one and 778 mm for one. Those figures are not all the same measurement.

Frame size or opening size? Check which one a listing gives. Four of the listings above say the size is measured over the outside of the frame: Finnmark’s standard alder door is 690 × 1890 mm on that basis. Three give an aperture size instead, such as 700 × 1900 mm for Finnmark’s Comfort door. The others don’t say which they mean. SAWO’s listing gives two figures for one door, a frame size of 690 × 1890 mm and an opening size of 600 × 1800 mm. Before you order, ask the retailer what the stated size refers to and what size of hole the door needs.

Glass sauna doors

Glass thickness. 17 of the 18 doors state 8 mm glass, described as tempered, toughened or safety glass; the other doesn’t give a thickness. That matches what two makers say of their own doors: Thermory gives 8 mm tempered glass for its sauna doors, and Palmako supplies its Anita S barrel sauna with a door of 8 mm toughened glass. Andres says its doors use tempered glass in frames of knot-free glulam, which it says helps stop the frame bending as the temperature changes.

Tint. Thermory offers clear glass or a bronze or grey tint. In the listings above, 5 offer bronze glass, 5 grey and 4 frosted or fluted glass. Some offer more than one, and the rest state clear glass.

Glass and the heater. Glass adds to the heater power a room needs. Harvia says each square metre of glass raises the power needed as much as adding 1.2 cubic metres of room volume. Our heater size calculator includes the door, and glass-fronted saunas compares saunas sold with a full glass wall.

Wooden sauna doors and frames

We didn’t record a solid timber sauna door at the retailers we track. The one wooden door in the makers’ material we’ve read is SAWO’s “Wooden Reversible Sauna Door”, listed with a 700 × 2040 mm frame in cedar, aspen or hemlock.

What we did find is glass doors in wooden frames, where the frame timber is the main choice after the glass. Thermory offers frames in pine, alder, aspen, thermo-aspen and black painted hardwood. In the listings above, 3 frames are pine, 5 alder and 6 aspen (thermo aspen included), not counting the same doors in other timbers that we skipped. 13 of the 15 Finnmark doors state a 92 mm deep frame; the other two state 68 mm and 50 mm.

How a sauna door opens and closes

• Outwards. HUUM’s DROP heater manual says sauna doors should always open outward, and Tylö’s US manual for its Luleå outdoor saunas says the same.
• No lock, in Tylö’s manual. Tylö’s US Luleå manual says not to fit a lock or mechanical locking device to the sauna door and, if a catch is needed, to use only a magnetic or spring-loaded one that lets the door open when it’s pressed or pulled. Some listings, and Thermory’s own page, use the word “lock” for the roller and magnetic catches below.
• A roller or a magnet holds it shut. Thermory lists two closing options for its doors, which it calls a roller lock and a magnetic lock. In the listings above, 5 mention a roller catch and 6 a magnetic one.
• Which side it hangs. 11 of the 15 Finnmark listings say the door has universal handedness, the three Tylö doors are listed for left or right hanging, and SAWO calls its doors reversible. Finnmark’s MODERN door is sold as a left-hand or right-hand door, so check the listing if the side matters to you.
• There may be a gap underneath. HUUM’s DROP manual says that if the exhaust air pipe is in the washroom, there should be a gap of at least 100 mm under the sauna door. Where the vents go depends on the heater: follow its manual, and see how to build a sauna for ventilation.

Sauna door handles and hinges

19 door parts from Finnmark Sauna, Aqualine Saunas and Vidalux: 8 handles, 9 hinges, one roller catch and one door seal, which was out of stock when we checked.

“From” is the cheapest listing not marked out of stock. The median is the middle price of all the listings of that type.

Check the fit before you order. Several of these parts are listed for one maker’s doors or cabins: the Vidalux hinge sets for Vidalux saunas, the Harvia handles for Harvia glass doors and one handle for Sentiotec Lava cabins. Two of the Harvia hinges at Aqualine sit in its “Sauna and Steam Room Door Hinges” category, but one is described for steam room doors and the other is titled a shower door hinge. Finnmark’s AU Premium hinge is priced singly, with a note that a standard door needs two. Six of the eight handles are wood or have a wooden grip.

Fitting and looking after a sauna door

Three instructions from the manuals and guides we’ve read, each about that maker’s own saunas:

1. Get the frame plumb and square. Tylö’s US Luleå manual tells the installer to check the door frame with a spirit level.
2. Check the seals. The same manual says that with the door closed, the pressure should be even on all the seals round the glass.
3. Let it dry. Harvia’s maintenance article says to open the air vent and leave the sauna door half open after bathing.

Is a steam room door different?

Harvia treats it differently. It says a steam room door should be 8 mm tempered glass, 8 mm laminated and tempered glass, or polycarbonate, and that no organic materials such as wood may be used inside a steam room.
