Cabin saunas and garden sauna rooms

A cabin sauna is a small timber building with square walls and a pitched, pent or flat roof, like a garden room built for heat. It’s the biggest category in our dataset: 199 models from 15 UK retailers, from a two-seat box you could fit beside a patio to sauna rooms with a changing area, shower corner and covered veranda. Every one is listed below with its size, height, heater and price, checked on 30 September 2026.

Shortlist: four cabins worth a look

Each comes top on the rule printed under it. For picks across every type of sauna, see best garden saunas.

Each pick is the top model on the rule under it, among models whose retailer publishes the seats, size, height and heater. A model already picked is skipped. Prices checked 30 Sep 2026; how we pick.

Every cabin sauna for sale in the UK

Prices include VAT. Each row shows the date we checked it against the retailer's own page; the latest check was 30 September 2026. Prices change: the retailer's checkout price is what counts. Height chips show the retailer's stated height: green 2.5 m or lower, amber taller. That's before your base, and it isn't a planning check (see why 2.5 m matters). “Not recorded” means we could not confirm the figure on the retailer's page.

Many cabin listings don’t state a seat count or a height. We leave those as “Not recorded” rather than guess, so check the retailer’s drawing before you rely on either.

Cabin sauna prices

Cabins cost more than other garden saunas: the median is £9,429, against £5,272 for a barrel and £5,747 for a pod or cube. The spread is wide, from £1,999 to £44,999, because a “cabin” can mean anything from a 1.2 m box to a two-room building with a veranda.

Only 22% of cabins include a heater. Where it isn’t included, the retailer usually offers a choice of electric or wood-burning heater at extra cost, so compare like with like. Our sauna heater comparison shows what the heater itself costs, and the garden sauna cost guide covers the base, electrics and delivery.

Sizes and seats

71 listings did not state a seat count.

Four-seat cabins in our data have a median footprint of 5.5 m²; six-seaters, 7.5 m². That footprint often includes a porch or changing area, so the hot room itself is smaller. Look for the internal sauna room size in the retailer’s drawings.

Sauna rooms with a changing area or veranda

This is what most people mean by a garden sauna room: a hot room plus somewhere to change and cool off. In our data, 61 cabins have a separate changing area and 51 have a veranda or covered terrace. Only 5 of those with a changing area include a heater in the price.

A veranda or deck needs care with planning: under permitted development in England, verandas and raised platforms aren’t allowed, and a platform must be no more than 0.3 m high. If a cabin comes with a deck or veranda, check it against these limits before you buy.

Height, roof shape and planning

Cabins are where the 2.5 m height limit catches people out. Of the 101 cabins with a stated height, 41 are taller than 2.5 m, so under permitted development in England and Wales they can’t go within 2 metres of a boundary. Further from the boundary, the limit is 4 m for a dual-pitched roof and 3 m for any other roof, with eaves no higher than 2.5 m.

Examples of cabins over 2.5 m high. Filter the table above with “2.5 m high or less” to see only those that pass.

Scotland measures the boundary zone at 1 m rather than 2 m, and designated land, listed buildings and flats have extra limits. Installing a garden sauna sets out the rules for each nation, and our planning permission checker tests a cabin’s height, eaves and position against them. To see only the cabins that fit your space and height limit, use the sauna finder.

Big cabins and building regulations

Building regulations don’t normally apply to a detached outbuilding under 15 m² with no sleeping accommodation. Between 15 m² and 30 m², approval isn’t normally needed if the building is at least 1 m from any boundary or built substantially of non-combustible materials; a timber sauna usually won’t be, so distance is what counts. In our data, 22 cabins have an external footprint over 15 m².

Whatever its size, the electrics are separate: a new circuit to a sauna is notifiable under Part P, and the room with the heater is a special location. See installing a garden sauna.

Log cabin saunas

Some cabins are built from solid interlocking logs rather than a framed and clad wall. In our data, 32 cabins have walls 60 mm thick or more, most of them 70 mm. The median price for those is £13,504. Thicker logs are more building, and often taller: check the height if it will sit near a fence.

Garden shed saunas

Converting a shed you already have is a popular idea, and it can work, but it’s closer to building a sauna from scratch than buying one. A sauna room needs insulated walls and ceiling, a vapour barrier, timber that copes with heat and moisture, benches, ventilation and a heater fitted with the maker’s clearances to anything that can burn. The Finnish Sauna Society says the most common cause of sauna fires is too little clearance to flammable material, or a stove that doesn’t suit its flue.

The electrics are the other hurdle. A new circuit to an outbuilding is notifiable work, and the room containing a sauna heater is a Part P special location, so plan on a registered electrician. Price the conversion against the cheapest cabins with a heater included (from £2,399 for a two-seater in our data) before you start. Our guide to a sauna in a shed or garden room covers what’s involved, step by step.

Heaters for cabin saunas

A cabin’s square room holds more air than a barrel of the same length, and a glass wall loses more heat, so cabins often need a bigger heater: 6 kW to 9 kW for a typical four- to six-seater. Size it with our heater size calculator, which adds glass area as HUUM recommends, then compare Harvia heaters and HUUM heaters. Where our data names the heater in an included package, Harvia appears in 30 cabin listings.

A bigger heater costs more per session. Put its output into the running cost calculator to see what it will add to your bill.

Who sells cabin saunas

Waltons sells the Novi range, most of it without a heater; see our Waltons guide. Delivery terms vary: some deliver kerbside on a pallet, some offload with a crane, and a few will install. UK sauna retailers compared has the detail.
