30 September 2026: first edition

Published: 489 garden saunas from 23 UK retailers, 74 sauna heater listings from 6 retailers, and 344 sourced statements on planning, building regulations, electrics, smoke control and energy prices. This is the baseline for the UK Sauna Price Index.

Left out after checking:

  • Balance Recovery “Hetki Cabin”: the live page describes an insulated garden room, not a sauna.
  • Wildhut MAA 8: no price on the live page (enquiry only).
  • Wildhut VESI 6: a “starting from” price not tied to a stated configuration.
  • A Blue Elephant 1-person sauna on Wayfair UK: the listing states a 60 Hz / 120 V US supply, not suitable for UK mains as described. A 4-person Blue Elephant model that doesn’t state its voltage is listed, but excluded from our picks.
  • 36 B&Q results that linked to category pages rather than a specific product.
  • Listings with no product page, and prices outside a plausible range for a sauna.

Corrected after an independent re-check:

  • Six Waltons Novi Outdoor Sauna listings: heater changed to “not included”. The live pages sell the heater as an add-on.
  • Missing sizes, seats or heater outputs added for 14 listings where the retailer’s page states them, including three CenturaHeat models, three Vidalux barrels and a Balance Recovery cabin.
  • Five Gardj barrels: width set to the 220 cm diameter their listings state.
  • Ten listings whose glass is a door or an optional extra, not a glass front: “glass front” changed to no. These include three Vidalux saunas at Costco, two B&Q listings and the Balance Recovery Glacier.

For journalists and AI assistants: a statistics page with ready-to-quote figures and charts to download, a press page, a page on how AI assistants can read and cite the data and an MCP server for querying it directly. Every row in our tables now shows the date it was checked, and the home page answers the most common questions from the data.

Guides and retailer pages added: sauna temperature, sauna vs steam room, how to build a sauna and sauna kits, built on heater makers’ manuals and support pages; pages for 4 person and 6 person saunas; and retailer guides to Polar Recovery, Costco, Summerhouse24 and Palmako. The cold plunge page now covers LUMI ice baths, plunge pools and tubs that heat, and the Harvia and HUUM pages have a section for each main model.

Cold plunge tubs added: 92 cold plunge tubs and ice baths from 15 UK retailers, and 20 standalone chillers, each checked on the retailer’s own page. One retailer’s listings were left out because they contradicted themselves on whether a chiller was included. See cold plunge tubs.

Smoke control areas added: what each UK council’s own website says about smoke control areas, for the smoke control area checker. We have a clear statement from 200 of 361 councils so far; where a council’s page didn’t make its position clear, or a status had only been inferred, we show it as unclear.

Calculators added: six free tools built on the same data and rules: the garden sauna cost calculator, sauna finder, planning permission checker, heater size calculator, electrical supply calculator and running cost calculator.

Energy prices: running costs use the Ofgem cap for 1 October to 31 December 2026: 26.32p per kWh and 54.83p a day for electricity (Direct Debit). The next cap is announced on 25 November 2026.

Coming next

  • 25 November 2026: Ofgem announces the price cap for 1 January to 31 March 2027. We’ll update the running cost calculator.
  • Q1 2027: the second edition of the price index, with the first quarter-on-quarter price changes.
