Ice bath chillers: every unit and price compared

An ice bath chiller is a small refrigeration unit that sits beside the tub. It pumps the water through, cools it to the temperature you set and, in most cases, filters it on the way, so the bath stays cold without ice. We found 20 standalone chillers listed by 11 UK retailers, from £499 to £3,995, and 49 ice baths and cold plunge tubs sold with a chiller in the price. Each is listed with the power draw, temperature and tub size its retailer states, checked on 1 October 2026.

Shortlist: four ice bath chillers worth a look

These come top on the rule printed under each one, among the chillers that were in stock when we checked. We haven’t tested them: the picks rest on the specifications and prices retailers publish.

Every ice bath chiller we list

Prices include VAT. Specifications are as each retailer states them; the latest check was 1 October 2026. “Power draw” is the electrical input where the retailer gives one; a chiller's horsepower (HP) rating is not its power draw. “Largest tub” is the biggest water volume the retailer says the unit suits. “Not recorded” means we don't hold the figure, usually because the retailer's page didn't state it. Three things to know when you read the table:

• Four of the 20 were out of stock or unavailable when we checked. They’re marked in the table and left out of the shortlist.

• Three listings are for a Chill Tubs mini chiller with the same stated size (430 × 420 × 270 mm) and the same 3°C minimum: £799 at Balance Recovery, £885 at Celtic Timber and £1,020 at Chill Tubs.

• The two Poolex units are reversible heat pumps that Balance Recovery sells in its ice bath range. The power draw shown for them is the maximum input each listing states.

What does an ice bath chiller cost?

Standalone chillers run from £499 to £3,995, with a median of £918. 11 of the 20 cost under £1,000.

Across the tubs we list, the median price with a chiller included is £4,496; without one it’s £499. Those two groups aren’t like for like: most tubs sold with a chiller are rigid, and most sold without one are inflatable. The lowest price we recorded for an ice bath with a chiller is £499, for the Pod Chiller + Ice Pod Pro at The Pod Company (UK); the same pair was listed at £598 on another of the retailer’s pages.

Horsepower and watts: what the ratings mean

Retailers describe chillers by horsepower (HP). That figure is a rating for the compressor (Polar Recovery, for one, lists a “1/3 hp compressor”), not what the whole unit draws from the socket. For running costs you need the power draw in watts, and only 11 of the 20 listings give one. Where a retailer states both, this is how they compare:

The two figures don’t move in step. Of the four chillers sold as 1 HP, two state a draw: 780 W and 850 W. A 0.8 HP unit states more than either: 1,050 W. If a listing gives only the horsepower, ask the seller for the input power in watts before you work out what it’ll cost to run.

How cold does an ice bath chiller get?

18 of the 20 chillers state the lowest water temperature they reach, from 1°C to 7°C. The most common figure is 3°C, stated on 11 listings. The lowest is the Polar Recovery Ultra Mini Chiller at 1°C, as its own page states it; Polar Recovery’s ice bath bundles with the same chiller give 3°C.

Those are the retailers’ figures, and most don’t say under what conditions. Two examples that do: Balance Recovery’s listing for the Chill Tubs Essential Mini Chiller says it cools to 3°C “even when ambient temperatures reach up to 43°C”, and The Cold Plunge Store says its Pro 0.8HP chiller takes a 200-litre tub from 23°C to 5°C in about 2.7 hours.

What size chiller for your tub?

6 of the 20 listings say how much water the chiller suits:

The others don’t say, so ask before you buy one for a tub it wasn’t sold with. Where a retailer does give a figure, check which model it applies to. For scale, the 55 ice baths in our data that state a capacity hold from 150 to 800 litres, with a median of 450 litres.

Ice bath chillers with a filter

15 of the 20 chiller listings mention a filter among what’s included, and several add ozone or UV treatment and Wi-Fi control. This is what each listing says:

Chillers that heat as well as chill

9 of the standalone chillers say they heat the water as well as cool it, so one tub can be a cold plunge and a warm soak:

Warm water needs more care than cold. HSE lists water between 20°C and 45°C among the conditions that let legionella bacteria grow, so follow the maker’s instructions on sanitising and water changes. The tubs sold with a heating chiller are on tubs that heat as well as chill.

Ice baths with a chiller included

If you don’t have a tub yet, you can buy the two together. 49 of the 92 ice baths we list include a chiller, from £499: 12 are inflatables, from £499, and 37 are rigid tubs or barrels, from £2,499.

Prices change: the retailer's checkout price is what counts. “Coldest stated” is the lowest water temperature the retailer gives for a model sold with a chiller; without one, the water is only as cold as the weather, or the ice you add. “Not recorded” means the retailer's page didn't state it. Buying the chiller separately lets you add one to a tub you already own. Check the fittings first: 12 of the 20 chiller listings say which hoses, pipes or connectors come in the box. Every tub, with and without a chiller, is on ice baths and cold plunge tubs.

The LUMI ice bath chiller

LUMI’s Mini Chiller 2 costs £699 on its own. LUMI states a power draw of 445 W and a lowest temperature of 2°C, with three-stage filtration. It doesn’t state a horsepower rating or the largest tub the chiller suits. LUMI also sells it bundled with each of its inflatable tubs: the 4 bundles in our data run from £758 to £1,048. What an ice bath chiller costs to run

A chiller cycles on and off to hold its temperature, so the cost depends on its power draw and how many hours a day it runs. At the Ofgem price cap of 26.32p per kWh:

We don’t have measured run times. One retailer publishes its own: Polar Recovery says its Ultra Mini Chiller uses “around 1.4-1.8 kWh per day” at a room temperature of 25°C with the chiller set to 8°C. Power, placement and noise

• Power. 16 of the 20 listings state a supply, and 6 of those describe a UK plug or a 13 A socket. Celtic Timber says its chiller “must be plugged directly into an RCD protected 13-amp socket”. Electrical Safety First advises using an RCD with all outdoor electrical equipment, and only extension leads made for outdoor use.
• Weather. Check the listing for an IP rating before you leave a chiller outdoors. LUMI and Polar Recovery state IPX4 for the Mini Chiller 2 and the Ultra Mini Chiller.
• Noise. Four units have a stated noise figure, from about 39 dB to 72 dB: The Pod Chiller (about 39 to 45 dB), Polar Recovery’s Ultra Mini (about 44 dB), the Chill Tubs mini chiller (48 dB(A)) and Baltoscandia’s Chiller & Filter Unit (65 to 72 dB). If it’ll sit near a neighbour’s fence or a bedroom window, ask the seller.
• Airflow. The chiller needs a dry, ventilated spot beside the tub, within reach of its hoses.
